Spotify is developing a tool that allows fans to create AI-powered remixes and covers of existing songs, with a two-step consent process for artists managed through Believe and TuneCore (The Team Around You). Unlike unauthorized social media reposts, these remixes link back to the original track, and Spotify intends to pay royalties to the original rights holders from the premium add-on. Believe and TuneCore require artists to opt in twice: first to general AI programs and then to the specific Spotify deal, ensuring creators retain control over how their music is manipulated by generative technology.

  • British rock and jazz drummer Simon Phillips released his latest album, Protocol 6, in June, featuring his work as both a composer and performer (Susan Niemann from Susan Speaks).
  • Bela Fleck’s recent live album, My Bluegrass Heart at the Ryman, marks a significant evolution in his bluegrass compositions recorded during a Nashville blizzard (Susan Niemann from Susan Speaks).
  • The SIQA chart for November 3 lists Imael Angel’s track Bad Times at number two, highlighting current trends in AI-generated music production (Zinstrel).
  • Remi Wolf’s album Mud, Fontaines D.C.’s Dopamine Chamber, and Michael Kiwanuka’s Fudge are among the notable October releases for indie, post-punk, and soul listeners (Shatter the Standards).
