Attackers compromised the update infrastructure of security vendor OpsShield, pushing malicious cPGuard packages to approximately 2,950 Linux servers on November 2 (Rod Trent from Rod’s Blog). The poisoned updates executed a script as root for 70 minutes, harvesting password hashes, SSH keys, and database configurations before exfiltrating them via the vendor’s own licensing server. OpsShield detected the intrusion after 12 hours and released a clean version, but the incident demonstrates that automated update channels are now primary targets for persistent, agentic exploitation. Security teams must now implement egress controls that scrutinize traffic even from trusted vendor update mechanisms.

  • A malicious version of the Anthropic Claude Code extension (2.1.313) remained active on the Cursor marketplace for 11 hours, planting persistent SSH backdoors on developer hosts (Rod Trent from Rod’s Blog).
  • CISA added a critical TOCTOU race condition in WordPress Core (CVE-2026-119977) to its KEV catalog, requiring immediate patching to prevent remote code execution (Rod Trent from Rod’s Blog).
  • GitLab CE/EE users must patch CVE-2026-97229, a CVSS 10 integer overflow vulnerability that allows unauthenticated attackers to achieve remote code execution.
  • Attackers are stealing LLM API keys and cloud credentials to perform high-volume model inference, costing victims up to $100,000 per day in unauthorized charges (TLDR Infosec).
  • Financial services firm MoneySmart confirmed that a security incident resulted in the unauthorized copying of customer personal data in Hong Kong and Singapore (TLDR Infosec).
