The Bosjes Chapel in the Western Cape of South Africa demonstrates how structural forms can echo the topography of their environment. Designed by Coetzee Steyn, the building features a slim concrete cast shell that undulates to follow the silhouette of the surrounding mountain ranges (John Valentine from Architecture for the Soul). Each wave of the roof structure rises to a peak, where expanses of glazing meet the ground, creating a serene connection between the man-made structure and the rural landscape. This sculptural approach pays tribute to the historic Cape Dutch gables found throughout the region, grounding the contemporary design in local architectural tradition.
The Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa in Cape Town employs a different structural logic through adaptive reuse. Heatherwick Studio transformed a 1920s grain silo into a museum by preserving the original elevator tower and storage annex (John Valentine from Architecture for the Soul). Because heritage restrictions prevented any new construction from exceeding the height of the storage annex, the elevator tower remains the tallest point on the waterfront. This constraint ensures the building maintains a constant visual presence across the city and the V&A waterfront, regardless of the observer's approach.

Sketch the silhouette of a nearby building to identify its primary geometric rhythm.
Look for the highest point and the repeating curves or angles that define its roofline.
